My name is Nickie (Nichole) Sekera and I'm running for the Maine House of Representatives in District #82, which includes the towns of Brownfield, Fryeburg, Hiram, Lovell and Porter.
If elected, I will work to:
Find solutions to the housing crisis
Make quality healthcare accessible and affordable, including mental health and substance use disorder treatment
Steward sound climate policy to improve infrastructure and the economy without compromising conservation
Free our elections from corporate influence
Support family farms and local food systems to revitalize our rural economy, improve public health and end hunger
Lessen the tax burden on working class and seniors
This is a true grassroots campaign. When a candidate recently had to withdraw, leaving a one-person race, I was honored to be unanimously nominated to offer the people a choice. Though this means that I'm very "late to the race", representing the people of my District is a duty I feel prepared for and will fulfill if elected.
I am honored to have the opportunity to serve the unique interests of our District. The majority of my career has been spent in education administration. I was part of a leadership team of a wilderness therapeutic school / licensed mental healthcare facility as well as the longest running wilderness emergency medicine program in the country. Taking care of our communities at the ground level is important to me.
Many of you know me through my various volunteer capacities, most notably protecting water sources. I am forward thinking in my work, have served on several boards, and was appointed (by the Speaker of the House) to serve on a statewide water resources commission. I have years of experience advocating for the health of our people, the environment, and the future of our rural economy— inside and outside the State House.
I am not afraid to challenge political leadership when they are not aligned with our collective best interests. I will work with any party or people toward the common good.
We have a lot of work ahead of us, and I'm ready for it.
Proud to be a Maine Clean Elections Candidate!
